March 9th Market Update

Alright team, the spring market is officially blooming! 🌸 We’re heading into a massive week that will determine the trajectory of mortgage rates for the rest of the month. If last week’s jobs data was the appetizer, this week is the high-stakes main course where we see if inflation is finally taking a back seat.

Here’s your economic playbook for March 9th – March 13th, 2026:

The 'Inflation & Imagination' Week! 💸✨

·       Monday, March 9th: Consumer Expectations & Barbie Day! 🎀📊

o   The Data: The NY Fed Survey of Consumer Expectations. This tells us what the "person on the street" thinks inflation will look like in a year. If expectations drop, it's a win for the bond market!

o   The Fun: It’s National Barbie Day and National Napping Day (the day after Daylight Saving starts). 😴 Just like Barbie, you can be anything—a mortgage broker, a business owner, or the hero who saves a deal! But maybe skip the nap until after you've cleared your inbox.

·       Tuesday, March 10th: Small Business Optimism & Pack Your Lunch! 🥗💼

o   The Data:NFIB Small Business Optimism Index. As a business owner yourself, you know the vibe! If other small businesses are feeling confident, it usually means the economy is on solid footing.

o   The Fun:National Pack Your Lunch Day. Save that dining-out money and put it toward your next business investment! 🍱

·       Wednesday, March 11th: THE MAIN EVENT—CONSUMER PRICE INDEX (CPI)! 💲🚨

o   The Big Check: This is the heavyweight champion. 🥊 This report tells us if the cost of living is cooling. A lower-than-expected CPI is the "Golden Ticket" for lower mortgage rates! 📉

o   The Fun: It’s National Promposal Day. Why not "propose" a great rate lock to those clients who have been sitting on the fence? 💍🏠

·       Thursday, March 12th: PRODUCER PRICE INDEX (PPI) & Plant a Flower! 🏭🌱

o   The Data:PPI shows what the producers are paying. If their costs stay low, inflation stays low. We also get the weekly Jobless Claims.

o   The Fun:Plant a Flower Day. Use this to remind your clients that the best time to "plant" their roots in a new home is now, so they can enjoy the bloom of equity later! 🌸

·       Friday, March 13th: GDP, PCE & Friday the 13th! 📈👻

o   The Data: A massive triple-header: GDP (Second Estimate), Core PCE (The Fed's favorite!), and Consumer Sentiment. This is a lot of data for one morning. 🤯

o   The Fun: It’s Friday the 13th. Don’t let the "spookiness" of the data get to you. You’ve got the skills to make even the scariest file look like a dream at the closing table! 🍀

What This Means for Your Mortgage Mission:

·       The Inflation Double-Tap (Wed/Fri): The market is looking for an excuse to push rates lower. If CPI (Wednesday) and PCE (Friday) both show cooling, we could see a significant rally in the bond market. 📈✨

·       Consumer Sentiment (Friday): If buyers feel optimistic about the future, they’ll stop worrying about the headlines and start looking at houses. 🏘️

A Fun Fact for the Week: Barbie’s Real Name!

Did you know Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts? 🎀 She was named after the creator’s daughter. Just like a well-structured mortgage, Barbie has evolved over decades to stay relevant!
